People in a shared budget
In a shared budget, newmonth knows who is who. An account can belong to one person, or to everyone as a joint account. A transaction also shows who entered it.
These options only appear after someone else has joined the budget. If you use a budget alone, you don't see them.
Choose who an account belongs to
- On the Accounts tab, touch and hold an account. Tap Edit.
- Under Owner, pick a person. Pick Everyone if the account is shared.
- Tap to save.
A New Account has the same Owner row. An account with no person chosen belongs to everyone.
What this changes
- When you add a transaction, it starts on your own account or a shared one. It does not start on the account your partner used last.
- newmonth remembers which account each person uses at a payee, the shop or person you pay. You both shop at the same store? Your phone fills in your card. Your partner's phone fills in their card.
- You can still pick your partner's account. Their name shows under it.
See who entered a transaction
Open a transaction that someone else added. The bottom of the screen shows who entered it.
Group accounts by person
On the Accounts tab, tap . Turn on Group by Person. The list now shows Everyone first, then you, then the others. This setting is only for this device. To change the order of accounts, turn it off again.
Change a name
- Go to Settings → Manage Budgets. Tap next to the budget.
- Under People, tap a name.
- Type the new name and tap Save.
A person without a name shows as You on their own device. Other people see Someone. Anyone in the budget can change any name.
Good to know
- A device that isn't signed in to iCloud doesn't know who you are. It works as if you used the budget alone.
- To invite someone, see Share a budget with your partner .
