iCloud sync
newmonth saves your budgets in your own iCloud account. There is no newmonth server. Sync means that a change on one device also reaches your other devices. This works for every iPhone and iPad with the same Apple Account.
Check if sync works
- Tap on any tab. Then tap Settings.
- Under iCloud, look at the iCloud Sync row. Tap it to see more.
The row shows one of these:
- Up to date: your changes reach iCloud.
- Not syncing: your changes don't reach iCloud. The row often says why.
- Off: not signed in to iCloud: this device doesn't sync.
Messages at the top
- Syncing… shows while a lot of data arrives, for example on a new phone. Tap it to see what has arrived. You can use the app at the same time.
- When it ends, the message says how many transactions arrived. It can also say that a new budget is ready. Tap it, then tap Switch to open that budget.
- Changes aren't syncing shows when your changes fail to reach iCloud many times. Tap it to see why. Hide closes the message. Being offline does not cause this message.
Common reasons
- You are not signed in: sign in to iCloud in the Settings app of your iPhone.
- Your iCloud storage is full: make space, or add more storage. Go to the Settings app → your name → iCloud.
- Shared budget can't sync: the person who shared the budget has no iCloud storage left. Sync starts again when they make space.
While changes aren't syncing, they stay on the device until sync works again. Don't sign out of iCloud until then: changes that haven't reached iCloud can be lost.
While sync doesn't work, your latest changes are only on this device. On the iCloud Sync screen, tap Export a Backup. This saves a copy as a file.
Good to know
- Signing out of iCloud, or turning off iCloud for newmonth, can remove your budget from this device. It isn't lost: it stays in iCloud and comes back when you sign in again with the same Apple Account, or turn iCloud back on for newmonth. Only changes that haven't reached iCloud yet can't come back.
- Some settings are only for one device and don't sync. Examples are Appearance and Hide Amounts.
