Share a budget with your partner

You can share a budget with a person you invite, like your partner. You both see and change the same budget on your own devices. Every change syncs over iCloud, which means it reaches the other device by itself.

Invite someone

  1. On the Home or Budget tab, tap . Then tap Share Budget.
  2. Wait a moment while newmonth gets the budget ready. A large budget takes longer. Stay online and keep the app open.
  3. Choose how to send the invitation and who gets it. Use the email address or phone number of their Apple Account.

You can also start from Settings → Manage Budgets. Tap next to the budget and look under Sharing.

Accept an invitation

  1. Install newmonth on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Sign in to iCloud with the Apple Account that got the invitation.
  3. Tap the link in the invitation. newmonth opens the shared budget when it has arrived.
  4. Sometimes this takes longer. Then a message at the top says the budget is ready. Tap it, then tap Switch.

An invitation only works for the Apple Account it was sent to. Other people can't use the link.

Stop sharing or leave

  • Did you share the budget? Open Edit Budget and tap Manage Sharing. There you can remove a person or stop sharing.
  • Were you invited? Tap Leave Budget in the same place, then Leave. The budget goes away from your device. The other person keeps it.
  • When sharing stops, the others see Shared budget no longer available.

Good to know

  • Each person needs their own iCloud account.
  • Everyone you invite can see and change the whole budget.
  • The shared budget is saved in the iCloud of the person who shared it. When their iCloud storage is full, changes stop syncing. See iCloud sync .
  • To show whose account is whose, see People in a shared budget .
