Capture Apple Pay payments
A Shortcuts automation on your iPhone can send every Apple Pay payment to newmonth. The purchase lands in your review list with the amount, the shop and a category. There it waits for you to confirm it.
Steps
- Tap on the Home tab, then Settings → Automation → Apple Pay Capture. The screen lists these same steps.
- Tap Open Shortcuts and go to "Automation". Tap "New Automation". If you already have one, tap instead.
- Choose "Wallet" as the trigger.
- Pick the card to capture. You can pick several if they all pay from the same account. Choose "Run Immediately" and turn off "Notify When Run".
- Choose "Create New Shortcut". Pick newmonth from the app list and add Add Transaction.
- Set Amount to Shortcut Input → "Amount". Set Payee to Shortcut Input → "Merchant".
- Tap the arrow on the action to show the other fields. Set Account to the account your card pays from. Then tap "Done".
After your first payment, the setup screen shows when it arrived.
What gets filled in
- The account from step 7, and the amount as money spent.
- A category from a payee rule . If there is none, the category you last used for that shop. If there is none, Category Needed.
- Maybe you already typed or scheduled the purchase. When newmonth is sure it's the same payment (same amount, and the same payee or a scheduled one), it matches the two and adds no second row. When it isn't sure, a second row shows Possible Match: choose Same Transaction or Keep Both.
- Every capture waits for your review. See Review captured transactions . It starts uncleared: your bank doesn't show it yet. When it does, swipe the row to Clear. A file import can also match it.
Good to know
- Only Apple Pay payments on this iPhone are covered. Card swipes, online payments, direct debits and standing orders aren't. iOS only tells newmonth about Apple Pay. For the others, see Capture bank alerts .
- In a shared budget, each person sets this up on their own iPhone.
- The Notifications row on the setup screen leads to Notifications . There, a switch tells you about each recorded transaction.
Captures go to the budget you last had open. If you use several budgets, open the right one before you pay.
