Notifications

newmonth can remind you of a few things you would miss while the app is closed. It sends nothing else.

Steps

  1. Tap on the Home tab, then Settings → Personalization → Notifications.
  2. Turn on Notifications. The first time, iOS asks for your permission.
  3. Under Notify me about, turn on the reminders you want.

The four reminders

  • Payment due: a few days before a credit card or loan payment is due. It works for any card with a due day under Statement tracking. Use the + and − buttons to set how many days before.
  • Scheduled transactions due today: when a scheduled transaction is due.
  • Assign your money: one day each month. It is the 1st unless you change it. Set it to the day your income arrives.
  • New transactions: right away, each time Apple Pay capture or bank alerts record something. You also get one when newmonth couldn't read a bank alert.

What a tap opens

  • A payment reminder opens that card's account.
  • A due-today or new-transaction notification opens Home with your transactions to review.
  • An assign reminder opens the Budget tab on the current month.
  • A capture that overspent a category opens the same place. Overspent means you spent more than the category holds.

Good to know

  • Date reminders arrive at 9:00 your time.
  • A due-today reminder never says the transaction was added. Opening the app adds it. Then it waits in your review list.
  • A payment reminder names the card, never an amount. Capture notifications leave out amounts while app lock or Hide Amounts is on.
  • Notifications are set on this device, for the budget you have open. In a shared budget, each person turns on their own. Only the phone that ran a capture gets a notification about it.

If notifications for newmonth are off in iOS Settings, the switch here can't turn them back on. Tap the warning row below it to open iOS Settings.
