Category Trends

Category Trends shows what your categories cost in an average month. On the Insights tab, tap the card. At the top is Average monthly spending. Then come the bars for all categories together, and the list of categories. Tap a category to open its own screen.

How the averages work

  • Only finished months count. The current month is not on these screens at all.
  • A category's average starts at its first month with spending. A month you skip after that counts as zero.
  • Refunds are subtracted per category and month. A month that got more back than it spent counts as zero here.

The percent badge

The badge compares your last finished month with the average of the earlier months in the range. It shows only with at least 3 months and a change of 10% or more.

  • you spent more than usual.
  • you spent less than usual.

A category's own screen

  • Average monthly spending and the bars come first. Slide your finger over the bars to read a month.
  • Spent: the total of the bars.
  • Transactions: how many transactions this category has in an average month.
  • Average: the average size of one transaction. Refunds don't lower it.
  • Payees: who the money went to over the range, with refunds subtracted. Tap a payee to see its transactions.
  • View transactions: every transaction of this category in the range.

Good to know

  • With Ignore One-Offs on, a category whose only spending was left out shows One-off instead of an average.
  • The bars for a month can differ from Spent on Cashflow or from Where It Went . There, a category that got more back than it spent lowers the total. Some spending with no category counts only there.
  • If two categories have the same name, they share one row, and the links to transactions don't show.
