Set a goal

A goal tells a category how much money it needs and when. The budget then shows its progress and warns you when it's short.

Steps

  1. On the Budget tab, touch and hold a category and choose Set Goal. Or tap the category, then , then Create Goal.
  2. The goal is written as one sentence. Type the amount.
  3. Tap the word that says how often. Choose every week, every month, or every 2, 3 or 6 months. Or choose every year, every 2 or 3 years, by a date, or no deadline. A weekly goal also lets you pick the weekday.
  4. For a goal that repeats monthly, every few months or yearly, tap the first word. Choose Set aside or Top up to. Goals with a due date ask you for the date.
  5. Tap to create the goal.

To change or remove it later, touch and hold the category and choose Edit Goal.

Set aside or top up?

  • Set aside asks for the full amount every month. For a bill every few months or once a year, it asks for it every cycle. A cycle is the time between two bills. Money left over stays in the category, but it doesn't lower the next amount.
  • Top up to only asks for what's missing to reach the amount. So money already in the category counts.
  • Money already in the category doesn't count for Set aside.
  • For a goal every few months or once a year: is that money meant for the goal, like savings you began earlier? Turn on the switch below the sentence. The first cycle then asks only for the rest. From the next cycle on, it asks for the full amount again.
  • Often a line below the sentence says what to assign this month.

When a goal is short

  • The category's Available amount turns orange. An alert at the top of the budget names it.
  • Tap the category for a button that assigns the missing amount. A snooze button next to it skips this month.
  • When you assign money, the Underfunded rule fills every short goal at once. See Assign money .
  • A goal with no deadline is never short. It just shows its progress.
