How the Budget tab works

The Budget tab is your plan for the month. Here you assign money to your categories and see how much is left in each one.

At the top

Read a row

  • On the left are the emoji and the name. Without an emoji, you see the name's first letter.
  • A thin bar under the name means the category has a goal. See Set a goal .
  • On the right, the top amount is Available: what is left to spend. Below it is what you assigned this month.
  • On a wide screen, like an iPad, you can see three columns instead: Assigned, Spent and Available. If the details beside the list leave too little room, close them with .
  • Each group's header shows the totals of its categories. Tap its name to fold the group or open it again.

What the colors mean

A category's Available amount and its goal bar turn red or orange when it is short of money:

  • Red: you spent more than the category had. See Cover overspending .
  • Orange: the category needs more money for its goal or for scheduled spending.

Otherwise, Available keeps its normal color and the goal bar is green. A gray bar means you snoozed the goal this month.

Tap or hold a row

  • Tap a category to type a new amount to assign. Below it are Quick-Assign, Move Money and . On a wide screen, this can open beside the list.
  • Touch and hold a category for more: Add Transaction, Move Money, Set Goal, Show Activity and Manage Category. With a goal, you see Edit Goal and, depending on the goal and month, Snooze this month.

Find a category

Tap at the top and type part of a category or group name. Or tap a filter. Tap to close the search.

  • Underfunded: categories that still need money for their goal.
  • Overspent: categories that spent more than they had.
  • With Goal: every category with a goal, also the ones on track.
  • Snoozed: goals you skip this month.
