What the budget alerts mean

On the Budget tab, alerts appear under the To Assign card. They list the categories that need money in the month you're viewing. Each alert comes with its fix: tap it.

The alerts

  • Overspent: you spent more than the category had. Tap it to open Cover Overspending. Choose where the money comes from: other categories or To Assign, the money you have not planned yet. More in Cover overspending .
  • Underfunded: the category has a goal, an amount it needs. This month it still needs more. Tap it to open Move To and add money. To skip the goal this month, touch and hold the category and choose Snooze this month. See Set a goal .
  • Needs money for scheduled spending: this month's scheduled transactions cost more than the category has. Tap it to open Move To and add the difference.
  • Carrying a balance on a card: a credit card or loan has had debt for two months or more. You haven't set a monthly amount for it yet. Tap it to set one up under Monthly Budget. Or tap to hide the alert forever. See Credit cards and loans .

More than one alert

  1. At first you see only one alert. A line below it says how many more need attention. Tap that line to see the rest.
  2. Tap Show less to hide them again.
  3. Four or more alerts of one kind become one row with the total. Tap it for the list, such as Overspent Categories. Fix the categories one by one. The list closes by itself once all are fixed.

Good to know

  • A category that is overspent and also short of its goal shows up once, as underfunded.
  • A red To Assign card means you've assigned more than you have. See How a month works .
  • Card statements aren't budget alerts. Neither are transactions that need a category, a review or clearing. They show up on the Home tab under Needs Attention. See The Home tab .

Alerts follow the month on screen. If you switch months, you see that month's alerts.
